Electrical test and tag is the process of visually inspecting and electrically testing portable electrical appliances to confirm they are safe for continued use in the workplace. At Blair Data & Electrical, we carry out test and tag services for businesses, construction sites, offices and other commercial environments across the Gold Coast.
Testing intervals vary depending on the type of workplace and the nature of the equipment. Construction and hire environments require more frequent testing than a standard office. We advise on appropriate intervals for each client's environment.

What Test & Tag Involves
Each test and tag inspection covers the following steps in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:
- Visual inspection — Every appliance is examined for damaged cables, cracked plugs, exposed conductors, evidence of overheating or physical damage that could pose a risk before electrical testing is carried out.
- Electrical testing — A calibrated portable appliance tester measures earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity as required by AS/NZS 3760, with results recorded against each appliance's asset number.
- Tagging — Appliances that pass receive a colour-coded tag showing the test date, retest date and technician identification. Failed appliances are tagged out of service and removed from use pending repair or disposal.
- Documentation — A complete test register is provided listing every appliance tested, its result and the next due date — supporting your workplace's WHS compliance records.
Frequently Asked Questions
AS/NZS 3760 applies to any workplace using portable electrical equipment. Construction sites, manufacturing facilities, hospitality venues, hire companies and healthcare environments are among those with the most frequent testing requirements. Offices and low-risk environments still need periodic testing but at longer intervals.
